Smyrna, Delaware – Painted Stave Distilling will be hosting their third annual Stave Art Auction in November to benefit the Delaware AeroSpace Education Foundation (DASEF) and support STEM education for young girls in Delaware.
DASEF is a non-profit organization established to raise visibility of the value of K-12 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education. DASEF implements programs to motivate, engage, educate and inspire people from diverse backgrounds and communities in Delaware in learning about science, space, technology, engineering, earth’s environment and mathematics.
Last year, $1,700 was raised during the 2nd Annual Art Auction. Funds raised over the first two years have supported numerous after-school and weekend workshops in schools and at the DASEF station in Smyrna, DE.
The stave art on display this year came from an eclectic group of artists from Delaware and Maryland. Each artist was provided with a barrel stave or head and encouraged to be creative with no limitations. As a result, the gallery is filled with a unique variety of mixed-media pieces.
2016 artists include: Jimmy Kroon (Felton, DE), David Yonker (Smyrna, DE), Ron Kelly Sr. (Bear, DE), Sharon Naccarato (Frederica, DE), Hailey Rees (Smyrna, DE), Dan Maffett (Smyrna, DE), Chris Corbin (Newark, DE), Maya Constantine (Dover, DE), Angelina Shinas (Smyrna, DE), Marissa & Michael Bauman (Smyrna, DE), Bronwen Hazlett (Townsend, DE), Colleen Gjefle (Smyrna, DE), Wendy Ferguson (Barclay, MD), Carol Gentes (Newark, DE) and Carol Maurer (Hockessin, DE).
The new exhibition was hung in the Painted Stave gallery this past week for those who want to come take a sneak peak. A formal gallery opening and artist meet and greet will be held on September 23rd from 7-9pm.
The auction will be held during the distillery’s third anniversary party on November 12. Their first straight bourbon whiskey, Diamond State Straight Bourbon Whiskey, is also slated to release the same day.
